FROM THE ARCHIVES……
This month’s ‘From the Archives’ Tid-Bit is from the GAC history;
In 1952 Viennese-born Henry Koerner  (painter of the Martha Morgan portrait hanging in the GAC classroom) began his art training in Vienna’s Academy of Applied Arts. His parents were victims during Nazi control in Vienna.   Henry came to the United States in1938 and began to work with the Office of War Information in NY and entered the Army in 1942.  He served with the Office of Strategic Services in England and Germany and returned to the US in 1948 and gained fame with five exhibitions in five years.  His 1952 Exhibition opened in New York Midtown Galleries.  When Henry was artist-in-residence in Pittsburgh at the PA College for Woman in that same year, he married a violin student named Joan Frasher who modeled for him.  Currently, two of his paintings are exhibited at the Westmoreland Museum of Am Art.  One is on the left wall in the entrance.Look for more Excerpts in the August Newsletter.UPCOMING MEMBER EXHIBITS

Pittsburgh Friends of Art Buy Work of Local Artists
Greensburg Art Club is priding itself on the spectacular success of four of its members – all of whom had paintings hung in this year’s exhibition of the Pittsburgh Associated Artists, which comes to a close in the Carnegie Galleries on Friday of this week.  In addition to having paintings by four of its members hang in the exhibition, 200 oils being selected from approximately 1,000 canvases submitted by artists of the Pittsburgh district, the Greensburg Art Club was thrilled to the fact that Homer F. Bair won a $100 prize for his painting, “To the Steel City.”
But last week the Club members had additional cause for congratulating themselves when it became known that each of the four exhibitions had sold paintings.  The Hundred Friends of Pittsburgh Art purchased 16 paintings – four of them being by Greensburg artists.
Mr. Bair sold his picture, “To the Steel City” for $75; Mrs. Fred Morgan, her painting, “The Summer Kitchen” for $100; Mrs. Paul Davids, her large painting, “The American-Slovak Church” for $150; and Alex Fletcher, President of the Club, his flower painting, entitled, “On the Window Sill” for $50.

Thanks to those who participated ! Westmoreland County Food Bank donors. Your donations are sincerely appreciated.

Thanks to Tami Krusper and her committee for organizing the Christmas Party. Games, food and shopping combined for a fun afternoon.

Thank you to Mary Yeager and husband who took on the huge job of trimming down the pampas grass in the front of the GAC parking area. We’ll have to find a way to keep it under control in the future. Suggestions?

Thank you to our facilities team of Joe Schildkamp and John Bixler. Thanks to them, we have a new dishwasher (installed and operational). They have spent countless hours dealing with a malfunction in our fire alarm system. Hopefully, the problem can be resolved without a huge expense.
