FROM THE ARCHIVES……

This month’s ‘From the Archives’ is from the GAC history;

Today’s world could take a lesson from the members of our center.  In August of 1964, GAC and the Southwest Greensburg Garden Club held a joint show, all part of Greensburg YWCA’s elaborate Friendship Festival, to show solidarity and a commitment to unity of efforts in the arts.  Read the following event details:

The joint show, involving Greensburg Art Club and the Garden Club, culminated in a Friendship Festival in Observance of World Fellowship Day.  Nina Whitfield (Stahlberg) was one of many who represented our club with a painting within the theme of “The Miracle of Flowers”.  Members of GAC could submit entries in any medium.

The extensive activities included an International Bazaar, Arts and Crafts Display, a Flea Market, and Chuck Wagon and Sidewalk Cafe.

Sounds like a huge effort but well worth it!

Look for more “From the Archives” in the November Newsletter!!

CONGRATULATIONS

2023 Mister Fred Rogers Fine Arts Juried Exhibition-Latrobe Art Center

Congratulations to GAC members on the awards they received.  GAC members winners are:  Mary Ellen Raneri, ‘A Quiet Moment’, Mister Fred Rogers Award of Distinction; Awards of Merit to Peg Panasiti for ‘Autumn Sonnet’; Larry Brandstetter for ‘The Table is Set’; Thomas Tholen for ‘Jason’; Barbara Kern-Bush for ‘Faeries’.

Cindy Berceli  was recently honored by receiving a request for her award winning pastel art works to be displayed at the Mansion on Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland.  She was recognized by the curator and was sought out specifically to be part of the show based on her reputation as an accomplished artist on a national scale.   We are proud to have such an accomplished artist and teacher within our art organization.  Here are Cindy’s words to to share her experience with you:

“The Curator of the ‘Animal Kingdom Exhibit’ at the Mansion on Strathmore in Bethesda, MD, emailed to ask if I was still painting animals.  She remembered my Ostrich painting that was in a national juried exhibit held there several years ago and was hoping I would be able to send them a few paintings for this exhibit.  I asked her to view the work on my website and she selected ‘Unkempt Harry, the Alpaca’, The Big-Hearted Giraffe and the ‘Regal Ram’ all pastels, which were delivered.  The exhibit included a variety of media including soft sculpture, a kite artist, 2 artists working in oils, a printmaker, 1 hanging textile and others.  The opening on September 14th was an incredible event, well attended and held in the beautiful mansion built in the 1800’s.  This is a very exciting exhibit which I am grateful to be part of.  Continue entering shows, paint what you love and keep an eye out for emails, they arrive when you least expect them!”

We would like to give recognition to our members for any special award or recognition they receive.   Kindly submit the detailed information in an email to Mary Yeager myeager777@gmail.com or call the Center, one week before the last day of the month.
