HAPPENINGS AT THE GREENSBURG ART CENTER

Exhibit runs from March 21 through May 2
The opening reception was held on March 21 with the prize winners selected by juror Laura DeFazio, professor of Art, California University of PA.

Yes, it’s that annual party everyone looks forward to, the pairing of great food and wine from Greendance Winery of Mt. Pleasant.  This year, it is scheduled for Friday, April 11 from 6 to 9pm.  Please mark it on your calendar and make your reservation.
This year, we are honoring the artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Considering that, we will have a Mexican themed party which will be colorful and festive.  The band String Theory will provide entertainment, and several Virtual Reality headsets will be available to experience, but the focus is on the Food and the Wine. Online registration is available as well as phone, mail or stopping by the Art Center.
SILENT AUCTION   is up and running and taking bids.  Select from over 50 items generously donated by our members.  In addition to the fine artwork paintings and ceramics, there is also a Golf Package, Mexican Dinners, Margarita Basket and a Lottery Tree.  We would love for you to buy a ticket to Art on the Vine however you can bid without getting a ticket.  Just stop at the monitor’s desk and ask for a bidder number.  At a minimum, we’ll need your name and phone number.

The Seventh Annual joint show between Latrobe Art Center and Greensburg Art Center will be hosted by Latrobe Art Center.  Open to all artists of 18 years of age or older who are currently Gallery Participants at Latrobe Art Center OR members at Greensburg Art Center.  Each artist may submit up to two (2) original entries for a few of $25.
All media is accepted and encouraged, both two-dimensional and three-dimensional. The juror, Josias Figueirido is an artist from Spain now based in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and Assistant Professor of Art at Seton Hill University. Artwork will be accepted Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23 between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Latrobe Art Center. All artwork must be delivered at this time with ID cards.This exhibition will be on display Saturday, April 26 – Wednesday, May 21.Opening Reception and Award Presentation will take place on Thursday, May 1 from 5-7 p.m.

The members of the Greensburg Art Center have been very supportive in the past and are encouraged to continue to take part in this opportunity. SPRING CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS ARE JUST GETTING STARTED.
The Spring class schedule is posted and printed. Classes begin the week of March 24 with a wide variety of experiences for all students.

CLASS/WORKSHOP PROPOSALS FOR SUMMER ARE DUE APRIL 30.

A grant from The Pittsburgh Foundation with funds distributed by The Community Foundation is providing a 75% discount for any class to any student 18 years of age or younger and living in the 15601 zip code. We hope to see a lot of young artists take advantage of that.

“JUMP INTO ART” SUMMER CAMP AGES 6 TO 11  August 4 thru 8, 9am to 12 noon; Imagine, Explore, Create !! $125, but if you live in the 15601 zip code, there is a 75% discount.
ATTENTION FIGURE DRAWING ARTISTS!  COOL WEATHER DRAWING FUN!!
A small but mighty group of artists rise to the occasion on the third Thursday of each month from 10 to 1:00 as they capture the gesture of a fellow human being!  Sound intimidating? Never fear!  A supportive group will share tips, strategies, and experiences to help get you on the journey.  Incorporate whatever medium you choose or come just to observe before jumping in to paint or sketch. Just a reminder that our charge of just $10.00 includes both live model and building use fee.

OPEN STUDIOS and Ongoing Classes      Open studios do not require formal registration and can be attended once, or however many times you want.  There are some changes here!
•    Paint and Critique, Tuesday afternoons 1:30-4:30, $5
•    Model Session, Third Thursday of the Month, 10-1:00pm, teen -adult, $10
•    Painting with Nina, Thursday afternoons 1-4:00, adult $20
•    Painting with Jerry Saturday afternoons at 1pm, oil painting.  A $5 studio is required per session.
•    Wednesday Night Painters with Peg Panasiti, 7pm, Watercolor.  Anyone interested in receiving notices or updates on the Wednesday Night Painters, please send your email to Peg peg@pegspalette.com   Class will continue through the winter months.  Make sure Peg has your email in the event of a cancellation due to the weather.  Fee $5

SETON HILL ALUMNI  Seton Hill is inviting alumni to participate in a creative project that will allow us to better contextualize the university’s past, present and future.  All creative works must be submitted through digital form by May 2, 2025. Juried selections will be announced by June 6, 2025. PITTSBURGH SOCIETY OF ARTISTS  ‘Artist’s Choice Exhibition’ at the Greensburg Art Center. Greensburg Art Center members and Pittsburgh Society of Artists are welcome.  Drop off artwork Sunday May 18, 10am to 5pm and Monday May 19, 10 am to 3pm. Opening Reception Saturday May 24, 4pm to 7pm and exhibit runs from May 24 through June 22.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

2025 Empty Bowl – Westmoreland County
Greensburg Art Center potters – instructors and students – are participating in the 2025 Empty Bowl – Westmoreland County event to help fight hunger.
Hosted by the Hempfield Area School District, Mud Pottery Club, and National Art Honors Society.
Event Location: Hempfield Senior High School Cafeteria, on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 12 to 4pm.
Tickets are $20, and are sold online at: Empty Bowl 2025 Ticket Sales. Enjoy a simple yet delicious meal of soup and bread, generously donated by local restaurants and bakeries. Participate in a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing, and have the chance to bid on special items. If you or a group of artists wants to exhibit your work in our Rowe Gallery for 2026, APPLY NOW.  Artist proposals are available on the website at greensburgartcenter.org.  We have recently revised our Gallery fee to be more affordable.  Check with any Gallery or Executive Committee member.

ARTIST MARKET is looking for ARTISTS
We are looking for Artists to display and sell their fine art in our Rowe Gallery and classroom.  Items such as jewelry, fabric art, pottery, as well as small pieces of wall art are welcome.  Any medium is acceptable.   Prospective artists must be juried in by the Artist Market committee.  Items are displayed throughout the year and concludes with our big event, the “Art of Gifting”, held during November and December.  Interested artists may contact the committee chairpersons Tami Krusper tami.kr@comcast.net or Mary Yeager, myeager777@gmail.com or by the link on the GAC website greensburgartcenter.org.

The due date for all membership dues and artist market dues is the end of the calendar year, December 31, 2024. This will insure your membership throughout 2025. Our membership dues are an important part of the budget and operation of the Art Center.

KITCHEN AND/OR GALLERY
If you or your group are interested in renting space a GAC for an event, consider the Kitchen and Gallery.  The kitchen provides a fully functional kitchen with oven, stove top, microwave and serving ware and the Gallery to a truly impressive space to entertain.  Rental fees range from $100 to $200 depending upon membership and if you need the classroom, kitchen and/or gallery.  Contact the Center for more detailed information.
