THE CITY SEEN Opens July 12 with an Opening 6 to 8pm – Closing August 22. Pittsburgh artist Charles McCarson Jackson was born in 1929. He attended Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University) and Yale and served in the Air Force. He earned painting and architecture degrees before setting up shop in the 1960s in a 19th century manse on the Northside of Pittsburgh. In the ’60s, he devoted his life to observing the city, its workings and its people. In this exhibit, Charles shares his observations with you.

June 4 through July 29.  Opening is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 from 5pm till 7pmPICTURE THIS AT THE LIBRARY, is the collaborative effort of the Greensburg Art Center and the    Greensburg-Hempfield Library. The members of the Greensburg Art Center have been very supportive in the past and are encouraged to continue to take part in this opportunity. YOU ARE HERE ‘Show Off’ Exhibit  You Are Here | 406 Clay Avenue | Jeannette, PA 15644. You can see this great collection of all of the submissions from May 31 through July 12. Show Off features both emerging and experienced artists ages 16 and up. With 2-D and 3-D art in various styles and on many different subjects, you’re bound to find something to catch your eye.If you’ve got art in the show and/or you’d like to meet the artists, please join us for the Show Off reception on June 7 from 6-8 PM. It’s free and open to the public.

Monroeville Public Library- Sam and Judith Gentile
Monroeville Public Library will host an exhibit of the works of Sam and Judith Gentile.  This exhibit will be open now through the end of June.

EDUCATION

Greensburg Art Center has received a grant to provide a 75% discount for tuition to students under the age of 18 and that live within the 15601 zip code.  This is a wonderful opportunity.  This discount will continue through the end of August 2025.

JUMP INTO ART” SUMMER CAMP AGES 6 TO 11. August 4 thru 8 – this is full but other classes for this age group are available.

ATTENTION FIGURE DRAWING ARTISTS!  COOL WEATHER DRAWING FUN!!   A small but mighty group of artists rise to the occasion on the third Thursday of each month from 10 to 1:00 as they capture the gesture of a fellow human being!  Sound intimidating? Never fear!  A supportive group will share tips, strategies, and experiences to help get you on the journey.  Incorporate whatever medium you choose or come just to observe before jumping in to paint or sketch. Just a reminder that our charge of just $10.00 includes both live model and building use fee.

OPEN STUDIOS and Ongoing Classes      Open studios do not require formal registration and can be attended once, or however many times you want.  There are some changes here!
•    Paint and Critique, Tuesday afternoons 1:30-4:30, $5
•    Model Session, Third Thursday of the Month, 10-1:00pm, teen–adult, $10
•    Painting with Nina, Thursday afternoons 1-4:00, adult $20
•    Painting with Jerry Saturday afternoons at 1pm, oil painting.
A $5 studio is required per session.
•    Wednesday Night Painters with Peg Panasiti, 7pm, Watercolor.  Anyone interested in receiving notices or updates on the Wednesday Night Painters, please send your email to Peg peg@pegspalette.com   Class will continue through the winter months.  Make sure Peg has your email in the event of a cancellation due to the weather.  Fee $5

The “Bells Across PA” initiative, a celebration of the United States’ 250th Anniversary, includes a project by the GO Laurel Highlands to create and display a special bell. This project involves Westmoreland County artists and is hosted by the Westmoreland Museum of American Art.   For more information, go to https://thewestmoreland.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Bells-Across-PA-Artist-Application.pdf    Please note, on the pdf file, it states submissions are due by May 15 however this date has been extended to June 16, 2025.  Contact  to dlamuth@golaurelhighlands.com from now until June 16, 2025.

This Bell will have the theme “MORE Energy in Westmoreland” and the motto “Powering our Past, Energizing our Future.” The planned location is along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail in Murrysville, close to the site of the first commercial natural gas well.
Groups of artists are welcome to collaborate on this Bell, as well as individual artists. Please share with any artists that you know!

Plein Air Painting Event at St. Xavier Nature Preserve
The Westmoreland Land Trust is planning to offer a Summer Arts Day at our St. Xavier Nature Preserve in Latrobe on Saturday, August 16. This would include a Plein Air painting session in the afternoon (1-4 PM) followed by an outdoor concert with a folk music group. We will provide refreshments and also an alternate indoor location to use for both events if the weather is inclement. We will be working on a flyer which we can share with you for use on your website, social media, and at your gallery if desired. The event would be free for both artists and the public.

Scottdale Historical Society 2nd Plein Air Painting Event 
JUNE 21, 2025 – SCOTTDALE DOWNTOWN AND NEARBY AREAS – Check in at the Gazebo, behind Rite Aid Pharmacy.  Check in time 10 am to 12pm.  It is OK to come earlier.
JULY 19, 2025 – WEST OVERTON Check in time 10 am to 12pm, but it is OK to come earlier.
AUGUST 9, 2025 – MAPLE BOTTOM FARM – FLOWER FARM in DAWSON, Check in 9am – 11am.  Please wait until 9am to arrive.
SEPTEMBER 19 – 21 – EXHIBIT AT THE SCOTTDALE FALL FESTIVAL
This exhibit will be judged but your works are not juried into the exhibit, prizes will be awarded, categories include A) Oil, Watercolor, Acrylic, Pastels, Pencil, Charcoal, mixed media, B) Youth Art Work (grades 1-6), C) Youth Art Work (grades 7 -12).
The fee is only $10, for one or all locations.  We only ask the artist to submit at least one piece for sale at the exhibit to be held September 20-22 during Scottdale’s Fall Festival. There is no fee for the Youth categories. Rose Mary Hagadus & Helen C. Hinchman Memorial Exhibit  Runs August 7-22, 2025 Rose Mary Hagadus and Helen C. Hinchman Memorial Exhibit was established to foster the art of Pennsylvanian artists.  This exhibition shall be open to all college/university juniors or seniors majoring in art, or any established artist in the counties of Blair, Cambria, Somerset, Indiana, and Westmoreland.  Entries shall be limited to two submissions in the representational works of painting, sculpture, or works on paper. Westmoreland Photographers Society  WPS is offering classes in ‘Basics of Photography’.  Intended for the beginner who want to learn how to better use their camera or smartphone.  Classes are in Mt. Pleasant.  For more information and registration, go to https://www.wps.photography.

APPLICATIONS in the Rowe Gallery for  EXHIBITIONS in the year 2026
If you or a group of artists wants to exhibit your work in our Rowe Gallery for 2026, APPLY NOW.  Artist proposals are available on the website at greensburgartcenter.org.  We have recently revised our Gallery fee to be more affordable.  Check with any Gallery or Executive Committee member.

ARTIST MARKET is looking for ARTISTS  We are looking for Artists to display and sell their fine art in our Rowe Gallery and classroom.  Items such as jewelry, fabric art, pottery, as well as small pieces of wall art are welcome.  Any medium is acceptable.   Prospective artists must be juried in by the Artist Market committee.  Items are displayed throughout the year and concludes with our big event, the “Art of Gifting”, held during November and December.  Interested artists may contact the committee chairpersons Tami Krusper tami.kr@comcast.net or Mary Yeager, myeager777@gmail.com or by the link on the GAC website greensburgartcenter.org.

Discounts on artist commissions, voting rights; prospectus and newsletter updates.    Membership reminder letters have been mailed out. The due date for all membership dues and artist market dues is the end of the calendar year, December 31, 2024. This will insure your membership throughout 2025. Our membership dues are an important part of the budget and operation of the Art Center.

RENTALS
KITCHEN AND/OR GALLERY
If you or your group are interested in renting space a GAC for an event, consider the Kitchen and Gallery.  The kitchen provides a fully functional kitchen with oven, stove top, microwave and serving ware and the Gallery to a truly impressive space to entertain.  Rental fees range from $100 to $200 depending upon membership and if you need the classroom, kitchen and/or gallery.  Contact the Center for more detailed information.
